Dorchester District 2 sent out a card stating that you need either your electricity bill OR a utility bill listing parents' names and address, and a second, matching form of identification with the same names and address in order to register your child. When I went to the school (Oakbrook Elementary) with a water bill, they said they could NOT accept it and I needed to go home and get my electricity bill. By the way, my child WAS registered at the same school last year. I was forced to get my husband to fax the electricity bill to the school in order to get it done in time before they closed. When I got home I checked the wording on the card to make sure I hadn't misunderstood it. Nope, it says quite clerarly EITHER the electricty bill OR another utility bill. Are these people really competent enough to be teaching children when they can't even get a simple thing like that correct?
To make matters worse, in the information packet they gave me at registration they included a list of school bus numbers and the subdivisions they pick up from, but did NOT include the street corner where the children should wait NOR did they include the time the children should be at the bus stop in the morning. When I called the transport department phone number I was told someone would call me back with that information. They did not call me back. I called again and left 3 voicemails and have still not heard back from anyone (It's Friday now and school starts on Monday). I called the school and explained the situation and they said all they can do is give me their "best guess" as to where the children should wait for the bus. THEIR BEST GUESS!!! Is this for real?!?! This lack of organization is ridiculous! We are talking about simple information that is needed each and every year. We are talking about kids here and getting them safely to school. Surely they should realize that parents need this specific information and give it out when you register your child. I should NOT have to be calling around searching for this information...and I am not the only parent doing this today. In my office alone I know of at least 5 other parents who are searching for a copy of Wednesday's Post and Courier to find out where their child will be picked up. The people over at the school districts should be ashamed of this state of affairs. It's embarassing.

OH...and do you think the bus routes are on the district's websites? Heck no! That would be too easy.
