2 Florida students charged in explosives scare face $800,000 bond
Updated 02:40 p.m., August 6, 2007
The Post and Courier
A bomb squad technician examines items removed from a four door sedan on Highway 176 in Goose Creek early Sunday morning. The FBI is on the scene investigating the suspicious car that was stopped by police Saturday night. A robot, center, removed several items including a backpack, a large gas can, and a red box from the car. The technician crawled on his stomach for a cautious up-close look at several items.
GOOSE CREEK Pipe bombs were found Saturday in the trunk of a car being driven by two Florida college students, according to court documents.
Now the men will have to post a combined $800,000 in bond to get out of jail, a circuit judge decided this afternoon.
Youseff Megahed, 21, and Ahmed Mohamed, 24, have been charged with possession of an incendiary device, Berkeley County Sheriff Wayne DeWitt announced today. If convicted of the charges, the men could face between 2 to 15 years in prison.
Mohamed's bond was set at $500,000 while Megahed's was set at $300,000.
Berkeley County Sheriff Wayne DeWitt said the men were pulled over Saturday night on U.S. Highway 176 while driving more than 60 mph in a 45-mph zone. When an officer approached the car, he saw one of them men fold a laptop computer, which the officer believed was suspicious, DeWitt said.
The officer asked them if he could search the car, which the men agreed to. When he asked if there was anything in the car he should know about, the men said there were fireworks in the trunk.
At a 1:30 p.m. news conference today in Tampa, a spokesman for the University of South Florida where the men attend said Megahed is an undergraduate student and Mohamed is a civil engineering graduate student, the Tampa Tribune is reporting.
Mohamed is originally from Kuwait and completed his undergrad education in Cairo, according to the Tampa newspaper. He has been at USF since January and was registered for six hours during summer session, the spokesman told the paper.
Megahed, originally from Egpyt, has been enrolled at USF since 2004 and had not declared a major. He was registered for three hours this fall, according to the newspaper.
An Islamic community leader from Tampa, Fla., who's been in touch with the families of the two detained college students, told The Post and Courier that Megahed and Mohamed are not troublemakers and that they a were simply on a weekend trip to North Carolina.
Ahmed Bedier, executive director of the Tampa chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a civil rights organization for Muslims, said family members have told him they think the materials were leftover fireworks Megahed kept in his trunk since July 4.
"Both of them are really naÃive kids," Bedier said.
He said Megahed is a permanent legal resident of the United States and Mohamed was the passenger. Mohamed's legal status is not known.
"There's a lot of unanswered questions," Bedier said.
A terrorism task force, meanwhile is reviewing the evidence, said FBI spokesman Richard Kolko.
"At this point, it is too early in the investigation to say there is any link to terrorism," Kolko said.
News that explosives were found Saturday shocked residents in Goose Creek, home to the Naval Weapons Station, which houses the U.S. Naval Consolidated Brig, a military prison where enemy combatants have been held.

Thank God for our quick acting emergency personnel... they really never recieve enough credit. Had these individuals not been apprehended and a bomb had actually gone off, the public would have begun pointing fingers everywhere except at these idiots who have no respect for life. Sadly, I've yet to meet a person of middle-eastern dissent who has any sort of respect for other people! I've met many, and also worked for two companies owned by middle-eastern families, and the trait is all the same.
Personally, I'd like to wipe the middle east off the map. My husband is in the Air Force and has been over there multiple times, and he quite agrees.

"No Thanks", please show some signs of intelligence. Unless you know Mr. Knuoff personally, you are not qualified to judge him due to lack of information. The reporter has conversed with him. You almost certainly have not. As for you, "Bailey 10", there are in fact people from the south that posess superior intelligence and education. Your lack of intelligence is evidenced by your ignorant posting, since the premise of your comments is that all Southerners are stupid, an obvious falsehood. As for you, "Rock Solid Republican", I am sure that you have correctly observed that many Middle Easterners are in fact screwed up individuals; however, this is not true for all of them and you should not give ammunition to the pathetic ignoramuses I critiqued above who are actually stupid enough to buy into a retarded stereotype. "Slaughtermeyer" seems to have his or her act together, since he or she introduces EVIDENCE. Maybe he or she is a lawyer.

Well, postman01, I guess I should reiterate that not all Southerners are ignorant and stupid. I'm very well aware that a lot of people from the south are intelligent and educated. I am a Southerner, educated and quite intelligent myself. Ignorance and bigotry is alive everywhere. The comments that RockSolidRepublican made about wiping Middle Easterners off the face of the map made my blood boil. There is enough violence in this world and there are too many other important issues at hand such as healthcare, bridges, getting this country on the right track than to do something that will never happen like wipe another country off the map. I still stand behind my posting but wanted to clarify that my posting was not intended for Southerners in particular, but for RockSolidRepublican and others that believe the way she does. I agree that not all Middle Easterners are bad people just like not all Americans are bad. You have a bad batch in any ethinicity. I hope this helps clarify my original posting.

My husband and I saw this developing story on CNN at 10pm last night; It was "breaking news". Though they had a lack of information, they were certainly trying to give the impression that the men were terrorists, had a car full of bombs and were of Middle Eastern descent. Due to their lack of information, my husband wanted to tune into local news, because they might know more. We flipped around and the only local news was on Fox 24. After several commercials about how they give you the news when you need it, they cut to a segment about the puppies up for adoption at a local shelter. Nothing against puppies, but makes me feel like the news around here is a joke.

Old "Jack" may have dupped the reporter here BUT I was going to a party around 6pm and witnessed this:
4 Berkeley county patrol cars with lights on had a tan color 4 door older model CAR pulled over. Standing beside the car was 2 men in cuffs having a middle eastern look, sorry if that sounds like racial profiling, I don't really care. An officer was searching the car and another searched the trunk. The one searching the trunk held up a partially covered cylinder looking item. I jokingly said to my wife that they looked like they had a bomb. Well when we tried to return to our home on Myers rd the road was blocked off. There you go....An eyewitness account.

I was also on my way home that way, around 5:30 or 6:00. and I can assure you I couldn't even get close enough to see the car or anyone in it. The traffic was rerouted in front of Walmart and we had to turn back around and go through the subdivisions to 78 and home. From Walmart, it APPEARED to be occurring down another mile...possibly in front of Devon Forest or ALCOA(too far away to be positive)...but our goal was Meyers Road as well, and we couldn't get anywhere remotely close...so I question "eyewitness".(Unless you missed something in your post) Having grown up in a law enforcement home, I assure you that plain clothes officers would NEVER pick up a cylinder container, not knowing what is inside. The would simply open the trunk, view the contents, and if questionable, call for the bomb squad. I know CGPD has had some issues in the past, but I would find it hard to believe they would be THAT stupid.

I don't get it. It seems to be a virtual news vacuum about this story. From what I've been able to piece together, this is what (I think) we know. 2 middle eastern men riding in a car that appears to be a rental with Florida plates were stopped for 10 hours on a US highway while the RED CROSS set up shop, then arrested while the bomb squad blew up 'illegal' explosives contained in the vehicle which was in close proximity to a US Naval facility, international airport, and appeared to be headed in the general direction of I 95 which after a cursory map inspection seems to be a bee line to DC.
The MSM version has been reduced to 2 guys were arrested after police destroyed a 'device' in South Carolina.
Am I missing something here? If I was a local journalist, I'd be all over this one.

Much of what the MSM is reporting comes from the Associated Press, not local reporters. Inserting "men of Middle Eastern descent" into the news story is to stimulate our blood thrust. This is the same tactic used on 9/11 with phony baloney hijackers. Susanne Schafer is on the AP South Carolina news staff.

The tapes show students as young as 14 forced to the ground in handcuffs as officers in SWAT team uniforms and bulletproof vests aim guns at their heads and lead a drug dog to tear through their book bags.
The raid was initiated by the school's principal at the time, George McCrackin, who resigned shortly after the tapes surfaced on national television. The raid was authorized based on the principal's suspicion that a single student was dealing marijuana. The raid was carried out despite the suspected student being absent at the time. No drugs or weapons were found during the raid and no charges were filed.

This is just a question, as I have been out of the area for a while and I would never want to pass blame or suggest a false theory--BUT...has the brig at the NWS not been used to house some rather high-profile or at least considerably well known terrorist suspects or something ??? I know that the brig, itself, is on a more secure part of the base; however, the "open" feeling of the Weapons Station scares me somewhat. It is the first base that we have been assigned to that is not more guarded. I remember when we were there--even in the late 1990's, the road was open through to Bushy Park. I'm sure that a fence isn't much of a deterrent to someone with explosives and determination.

To 'slaughtermeyer': you are going around posting on various sites that carry this article that the men detained are probably Israelis. You are an anti-semitic terrorist sympathizer who is trying to spread your hateful anti-semitism everywhere you go. Are you on the CAIR payroll? And what excatly does your screen name 'slaughtermeyer' mean? Slaughter the Jews?
Shall I look up your IP address? Perhaps you are posting from an enemy nation?

That goes for you too 'Amanda.' You and 'slaughtermeyer' are spreading anti-Jewish anti-Israeli propaganda straight from an Iranian textbook.
Here's a quote from you:
"Were the men of Middle Eastern descent found with a bomb in Goose Creek, SC, Israeli Citizens? The reason I am asking is because they have a history of terrorist activity in the US near military or
government installations and the Charleston Naval
Weapons Station is located in Goose Creek, SC."
The reason you are asking such a ridiculous question is to give yourself a platform for your anti-semitic conspiracy theories where the Jews are always behind every plot carried out by muslim terrorists. Either too much Alex Jones or too much jihadist indoctrination. Please go away.

Wow....how close to a Military Base can two Middle Easterners get, and with bomb material in hand? All of this seems a little off the normal. It is even more a little strange a routine police stop by Goose Creek Police seemed to stop by chance two Middle Easterners that just happened to have bomb material Did they get a call for a heads up. That's the only way I can imagine the Goose Creek Police on the scene. Hell fire I've had to go through the act of removing a left kidney to get a police officer to show up for a House Break in close to the same area....Wow some facts are definitely missing....

They are believed to be students at a Florida college.
The car was rented from South Florida.
Could this be the "Yousef Megahed" they are talking about?

It's easy to lose sight that the US is a major target of many terrorists who despise our way of life and the fact that we are Israel's ally. Sadly, it seems that Muslims all over the world want to see our downfall and are being trained from birth to despise us and to believe that they will receive a reward after death for killing our elderly, men, women and children. I'm not being racist, just pointing out a fact. We see them burning our flag on their streets chanting "Death to America" and recruiting American Muslims via You Tube to carry out terrorist bombings. Wake up people, New York was not the last city we will see hit hard by the end result of blind hatred......if they are in Goose Creek South Carolina, they can be anywhere.

The recent nondescript bomb scare is not the first normalization of direct police-state actions in Goose Creek, SC.
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z13/A...
The November 5, 2003 police raid of Stratford High School was recorded by both the school's surveillance cameras and a police camera.

This is the latest AP report on the bomb incident near Goose Creek.
The salient thing here is the refusal of the Berkeley County Sheriffs office to talk to the AP. I understand that they might put the P & C first BUT they should treat ANY legitimate news organization with equal respect. The AP is unquestionably legitimate.
So we're seeing the sheriff's dept there display a xenophobic redneck streak, which is unacceptable in today's world. Not to mention EMBARRASSING to the multitudes that are FROM HERE who are not xenophobic rednecks. This is a national news story and the P & C is not geared for that kind of coverage by design. This could happen anywhere and there is no shame whatsoever upon US that it happened here; in fact, the healthy viewpoint is that our boys prevented a tragedy.
By the way, I am a native and I find myself in large agreement with the sentiments and postings of most on this thread; however, we are AMERICANS first and Southerners second. Remember that!!!!!!!!!! As for the charges of "whitewashing", if there was such an attempt it failed. As for the "redneckville" contention, most people here are not rednecks. That ceased to be true a while ago and living in the past is UNHEALTHY.
A little less "black helicopter" nonsense and more DISPASSIONATE analyis would seem to be in order here.
I am disappointed in "Slaughtermeyer" for displaying anti-semitism. That's pathetic, especially since a big time Jew (Joseph Lieberman) has the guts to openly support President Bush despite the idiotic behavior and rhetoric of that pitiful excuse for a political party he belongs to.

Thank you, postman01 for finally getting us back on track with the discussion. . . As you said, a little less "nonsense"... why would Berkeley County be so quiet about things if it were 'nothing'. Wouldnt' they come out and say, 'Nothing to see here folks, move along?" I mean, I understand taking precautions, but once the threat is minimized--why wait until MONDAY to hold a press converence?
As for the "mass hysteria" haweena, does this mere comment log not echo that? Rather than trying to find out what happened in Goose Creek, the topic quickly turned to finger pointing, racial suggestions, and even "anti-semitism" conversations. If anything, this blog shows that people are very quick to judge and guess--but often fail to miss the message: IF the explosives were carried through Charleston, they could have had an intended target locally--or they could have had bigger plans that happened to be interrupted, thank goodness, by a county deputy in SC...either way, the facts are the facts and that should be what is the focus of any logical questions or comments. The P&C provides this service to us to express our opinions, gain information, and hopefully become more educated in the process. Racial, Religious, Anti-Semitic, Anti-Muslim remarks should be posted somewhere else, in my opinion. . .

When dealing with such a touchy topic and a matter of national security, discretion is necessary, as is time since they are dealing with several other national agencies having to give their approval for them to move forward.

Thank you, Livia. One observation I would like to make is that the racial, religious, etc. remarks actually do serve a purpose, which is as follows: Because we are anonymous, we say what we really think, something we might not do if we were worried about offending friends and/or family. In addition, it tells us how some of the people we share the world with actually think, which is invaluable infromation not only for purposes of this discussion thread but also life in general. The flip side is that those who we "question" (to put it politely) also know how we think to an extent. The question is what does a given individual do with this insight. That's the dividing line amongst us.
Anyway, the truth is that Uncle Sam is running this show and this is now a national security matter. No matter what we read or hear, when the FBI tells the Berkeley County Sheriff's department (or any other local or state law enforcement agency) to jump, their response is "how high". This is the most important thing to understand when assessing the behavior of Berkeley County and the subsequent reporting of it, since journalists can only responsibly report what they know. This assumes, of course, no "leaks" as such.

Well, I would have to say that no matter where thses two individuals were coming from or even going, they were stopped for speeding and then the Officers found what appeared to be an explosive device. Being in Law Enforcement and the military, these two are being held within the limits of the law and they should be charged in accourdance with Local, State, and federal laws pertaining to the possession and transporting an explosive type device. Just because they are from some college in Florida doesn't exclude them from the laws in South Carolina. My hat goes off to the officer, troopers and all emergency responders for handling this incident with great magnitude and professionalism.
This incident just lets the American people know what their military has to deal with everyday in Iraq and Afghanistan.

WithHonor,
No one is saying that they shouldn't be held IF they broke the law. At this point it appears that they broke the law for speeding...the FBI was on hand to investigate and they have stated it appeared to be fireworks. My question would then be, is it illegal to possess fireworks in SC? No...However...I am not familiar enough with SC law yet to say if it is unlawful to carry fireworks across state lines. It appears there is a lot of missing information on this story and until they release more information, there is no need for panic.
I am the daughter of a retired police Sergeant, my sister is a Chas. Co. Sheriff's Deputy, and I am also former military myself. I too want to congratulate the GC police dept. for a job well done.
I felt it necessary to point out that in spite of whether these men are being presented as sight seeing students ( with a bomb... ), the hijackers of 9/11 were all educated and respected men and none close to them ever saw "it" coming. With that said, I'd like to post an exerpt I found of the fatwa declared by Bin Laden just to shed some light on the scale of what we are dealing with.
( I say to you William (Defence Secretary) that: These youths love death as you loves life. They inherit dignity, pride, courage, generosity, truthfulness and sacrifice from father to father. They are most delivering and steadfast at war. They inherit these values from their ancestors (even from the time of the Jaheliyyah, before Islam). These values were approved and completed by the arriving Islam as stated by the messenger of Allah (Allah's Blessings and Salutations may be on him): "I have been send to perfecting the good values". (Saheeh Al-Jame' As-Sagheer). Our youths believe in paradise after death. They believe that taking part in fighting will not bring their day nearer; and staying behind will not postpone their day either. Exalted be to Allah who said: {And a soul will not die but with the permission of Allah, the term is fixed} (Aal Imraan; 3:145). Our youths believe in the saying of the messenger of Allah (Allah's Blessings and Salutations may be on him): Those youths know that their rewards in fighting you, the USA, is double than their rewards in fighting some one else not from the people of the book. They have no intention except to enter paradise by killing you. An infidel, and enemy of God like you, cannot be in the same hell with his righteous executioner. )

Wow, Charleston, way to show that the terrorists have won, that they have turned us into hyper-reactive fools incapable of thought outside of the hindbrain. Anyone actually engaging something beyond their brainstem will notice that "...officials said they [don't] expect a federal charge to be filed." If this were a serious issue that could even have a chance of being linked to terrorism, the Fed would be all over it. Come on, people. We're better than this.
If I were to conduct myself in the P&C comments as many of you, then guess what? I'd say that most of you here are morons, if I may draw a conclusion based on the limited evidence that you present in your comments. It's probably not fair of me to make that judgment, but then again, so many posters here seem to draw conclusions about criminal matters based on preliminary reporting, so I'm taking the same liberty as they. There is certainly no lack of zealous enthusiasm when the person committing the crime is a non-white, so I am happy to make my comments with the same zeal.
This article certainly does not provide the whole story, so why don't those of you invoking 9/11 and thinly-veiled anti-Muslim vitriol pipe down until the whole story comes out (i.e. whether it a pack of M80s or a genuine threat).
I for one would hate to be Muslim or even darkly-tanned if I were in the US. these days Imagine the chiding, sneering, and accusatory stares. Sounds A LOT like what Protestants went through years ago - i.e., why so many of us whites are here in these United States in the first place.
And while you troglodytic 'Christian' All-American Honest Hard Workers are extolling the virtue of your decidedly un-Christian, un-American, ill-informed opinions, why don't you stop and think about real threats? Obesity, smoking, drunk driving... Hell, consider the least of these: terrorist deaths in this country pale in comparison to drunk driving deaths. There is a drunk driving accident every 30 minutes here. Where is your outrage? Drunk drivers are terrorists! Next time you elbow up to the bar and watch some drunk scumbag head for the door... Shoot him! He's probably going to kill someone! But wait... "He looks like me..."
Now that I think about it, I have a friend training police in Afghanistan. He recently survived an ambush by Taliban forces. Are they the terrorists? No... they are simply fighting a force that is in a land they once controlled. The problem is that we are over there at all. My friend is there because the current administration LIED to the American public, and we the people were too afraid (and many of you still are, judging by comments here) to stop and say... show us the proof. So my friend, and many others' friends, brothers, fathers, and mothers are fighting and dying in a foreign land. They are there because of our fear.
Man, perhaps WE are the terrorists.
We sure are a hell of a lot better at killing ourselves than anyone else.

and about the Stratford High incedent... I personally know several kids that went to that school and were put on the floor against the walls during this
the GCPD had every right to do what they did except one small detail, they got there too late
the honor role kids told me that the dealers got their stuff out of there ahead of time because someone knew GCPD was coming, that's why it turned ugly and embarassing
had the creek's pd been able to get in there without everyone knowing about it ahead of time the story would have unfolded quite differently

Kerry,
Timothy McVeigh was a "Christian" like jihadists are "Muslim." If you think Muslims are a dangerous lot, are you forgetting that Christians were responsible for the Inquisition(s) and for many crusades? George Carlin wisely observed that "God is a leading cause of death." And if you want to get secular (which murder for cause is), how many civilians are dead because of American foreign policy?
Kerry, if your vision of "the true AMERICAN way of life" is anything like what you are espousing here (I'm sure it will be deleted soon, so posterity I'll sum it up as the most flagrantly moronic bigotry I've read here), then you might want to adjust your world view and read some history.
I assume you consider yourself a Christian. Please tell me how your opinion is even remotely like something Christ would do, or taught us to do. I would like to know which church you attend, and would like for you to recite verbatim what you wrote here in front of the congregation.
Multiplicity of opinions AND religions ARE the true American way. Refer the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It is because of these defining American documents that I can say that those of us who disagree with your opinion are not "traitorous vermin," as you state.
Aren't you, in fact, the un-American for believing that we are?

The South is ready and willing to kill the enemy.
Read the facts:
Iraq Deaths Hit South Hard
By JAMES W. CRAWLEY
Media General News Service
WASHINGTON - More than half the 2,000 U.S. troops killed in Iraq either came from the South or were assigned to military bases in the region, according to an analysis of Pentagon records.
The U.S. military death toll in Iraq since March 2003 reached 2,000 Tuesday. The South continues to bear a heavy toll from the war, said national security analysts.
Military officials Tuesday reported the deaths last Friday of a Fort Benning, Ga., soldier who died of wounds suffered Oct. 17 in Samarra, Iraq, and two Marines who were killed in a roadside bombing in Baghdad that claimed another Marine and a Navy corpsman.
The 2,000 total counts those killed by hostile fire and those who died from accidents, non-combat injuries, illness or suicide while fighting in Iraq, nearby waters or Kuwait.
Of those, about 55 percent either listed permanent homes or were assigned to military bases in Southern states.
"You would expect that," said John Pike, director of GlobalSecurity.org, an Alexandria, Va.-based think tank. "There is a greater propensity to join (the military) in the South. And, you can't drive very far in the South without running into an Army base."
The South, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, comprises Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
Thirty-seven percent of fallen troops listed their permanent residency in the South.
A recent report by the Durham, N.C.-based Institute for Southern Studies showed that 35 percent of active-duty personnel were recruited from the South. According to the report, 51 percent of the military is based in those states.
"The way people see and feel (the war's impact) is in the casualties from the war," said Chris Kromm, the institute's executive director.
He cited a CBS poll in September that found 34 percent of Southerners thought the Iraq war was having a "major impact" on their communities - 10 percentage points higher than any other region.
"Clearly, the Southerners feel the Iraq war is disproportionately affecting their communities," Kromm said.

JeannieJoy,
I'm sorry my post was lost on you. I'll break it down:
1) The majority of the reaction here demonstrates a lot of fear of death at the hands of terrorists.
2) When something other than ripe old age is involved, a substantial number of Americans die at their own hands or at the hands of other Americans.
I'm pointing this out because it does not make sense that people are so passionate about a possibility, or a threat, when so many are actually dying right now, needlessly. As an example I offer drunk driving statistics; there are other stats that could be used. It's a matter of how many terrorist-caused deaths in the US vs obesity-related/smoking-related/etc. About 3000 people died in the WTC attacks. That's about 2 months worth of drunk-driving deaths. A drunk driver in an Audi TT split a utility pole close to my house last night. She could have easily killed herself or others. She is more of a threat to me than any terrorist.
People's lifestyle choices do apply in a broader sense as well, in that poor lifestyle translates to an enormous drain on the US economy. Jeannie, I commend you on your healthy lifestyle, and congrats for giving up smoking, I know that's hard. I am in the process of losing 20 extra pounds that I have because I don't want to be a drain for others to support. You and I will not be a drain on the healthcare system that we as taxpayers and insurance payers fund, at least not for self-inflicted reasons. My argument obviously does not involve you (in fact it applies more to me, because I am a bit overweight).
I just wish that if people were going to get passionate about threats to American society, they would look internally, at things they can affect. It's our duty to be well-educated, it's our duty to be as healthy as we can, and it's our duty to be vigilant against public and governmental appeals to fear. THAT is the foundation of a great nation; I think that's how we started out.
As long as we operate out of response to our fears after 9/11, well, isn't that what the 9/11 terrorists wanted?

While not all Middle Easterns are bad we must identify that our biggest threat comes from Islamofacist and they are tying to kill us.
I hope this goes beyond state charges and is fully investigated by the FBI.
CAIR (the council of American and Islamic Relations) itself has been suspected of funding terrorist, they have yet to denounce terrorism.
To Underdog, obesity, smoking and drunk driving never killed 2000 innocent people at one time.
No one is disputing Afghanistan so I think you don't have an aguement there. We were not there when Ben Laden attacked us, we were minding our own business.
To Underdog, I suggest you get your hand out of the sand and wake up, we are at war whether we are away or at home.
Islamic terrorists are Middle Eastern, African, European, Asian and from the former USSR. So they come in all races, do not be decieved.
God prophesized about Ishmael in Genesis 16:11-12: Starting with verse 8, God said:
8 And he said, "Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?" "I'm running away from my mistress Sarai," she answered.
9 Then the angel of the LORD told her, "Go back to your mistress and submit to her." 10 The angel added, "I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count."
11 The angel of the LORD also said to her:
"You are now with child
and you will have a son.
You shall name him Ishmael, [a]
for the LORD has heard of your misery.
12 He will be a wild donkey of a man;
his hand will be against everyone
and everyone's hand against him,
and he will live in hostility
toward [b] all his brothers."
This prophesy is true even unto today. This verse describe Arabs then on up to til the present. so much so they started their own false religion to extend their hatred to others. There's verses in the Koran they calls non muslims infadels and orders their execution or conversion. Islamofacist are not mad because we are over there, they are mad because we refuse to accept Islam become muslims. Their goal is to spread Islam across the world and to do it through as much brutality as possible.
This hotility is all due from a lack of Faith in God from Sara and Abraham to supply them with children. Thanks to their bad judgement in allowing Hagar have a child by Abraham and sara's jealousy caused years of anger, resentment and animosity that is still running rampant today.
Faith in God could have prevented and only faith in God can solve it.

If, however, that same definition is extended to individuals willing to pursue their promised 72 virgins IN A PUBLIC PLACE, thereby trampling upon the rights of others NOT to have their body parts splattered up against a wall in some sort of perverted Rorschach ink blot testimonial to Islam's prophet, then, by all means, sign me up.

Ok, so I'm a bit confused. There seems to be a news vacuum about this incident, very little actually reported. So how does someone infer that the the media is blowing the story out of proportion, or that mass hysteria is being generated? Could it be that the authorities aren't talking yet because this is still an active investigation which they don't want compromised? Since when is the media restricted as to who they can quote? And I have no clue what the incident at Stratford has to do with this story-cannot see the connection at all! I have never seen so many wild, half-baked theories in one place. It would be great to come across some intelligent, well-thought out, rational discussion without all the name-calling and personal attacts. As for the Goose Creek PD over-reacting, I for one prefer that they err on the side of caution! My daughter and her baby travel 176 on a regular basis, including late at night. He or she quite clearly does not understand the difference between those who have intent or design of some kind and those who merely slough along to get along. Most such individuals mean well.
Underdog represents a possibly dangerous and THROWBACK way of thinking and functioning. Wild accusations against strangers, stereotyping everyone who does not have an identical viewpoint, etc., are part of a pattern that should be decisively dismissed.

JeannieJoy, you ask how what I say is ing a war-breeding religion, well, thanything other than anti-Christian. I don't see how what I wrote is anti-Christian, and it certainly was not my intent. I genuinely would like to know how you are coming to this conclusion :-) . I will offer that I was raised Christian here in the South., and based on what I learned, I am finding it hard to reconcile the proposed eradication of over 1 billion people with any sensible interpretation of Christian principles.
I suppose I should state that my main goal in what I am posting is to elicit a deeper thought than it seems most people are putting in on the issue. For example, whereas a lot of these opinions seem to be founded on the premise that a) all or most Muslims are terrorists and b) That Islam is a religion of war, i saw fit to remind everyone about Christianity's very bloody history. So if one says that Muslims are guilty by virtue of Islam bee same could be said of Christianity.
By the way, does anyone see a parallel between the basic sentiment that all Muslims and Islam should die and NAZI Germany's "Final Solution," i.e. the extinction of a religion and its practitioners? Isn't that one of the things that made NAZI Germany "bad?"
With regards to my comments about Afghanistan and the Taliban, I believe that the US has every right to pursue Bin Laden. We did overthrow an entire government though. My point was not in support of the Taliban. I just re-read what I wrote, and I did not make this clear, so, eh, my bad. The thing is, the Taliban did not attack us. Bin Laden did. Al Queda did. How was the Taliban connected to 9/11? If your response was to say that they support terrorism, well, that seems to be very true. But do we not do that ourselves when we fertilize, pump gas, buy plastic, or do anything else that involves petroleum and its derivatives?
tressaadabo, thanks for your post. it is quite good, and your faith is inspiring. "YOU WORRY ME!" By American Airlines Pilot - Captain John Maniscalco
I've been trying to say this since 9-11, but you worry me. I wish you didn't. I wish when I walked down the streets of this country that I love, that your color and culture still blended with the beautiful human landscape we enjoy in this country.
But you don't blend in anymore. I notice you, and it worries me.
I notice you because I can't help it anymore. People from your homelands, professing to be Muslims, have been attacking and killing my fellow citizens and our friends for more than 20 years now. I don't fully understand their grievances and hate, but I know that nothing can justify the inhumanity of their attacks. On September 11, nineteen ARAB-MUSLIMS hijacked four jetliners in my country.
They cut the throats of women in front of children and brutally stabbed to death others. They took control of those planes and crashed them into buildings killing thousands of proud fathers, loving sons, wise grandparents, elegant daughters, best friends, favorite coaches, fearless public servants, and children's mothers.
The Palestinians Celebrated, The Iraqis were overjoyed, as was most of the Arab world. So, I notice you now. I don't want to be worried. I don't want to be consumed by the same rage and hate and prejudice that has destroyed the soul of these terrorists. But I need your help.
As a rational American, trying to protect my country and family in an irrational and unsafe world, I must know how to tell the difference between you, and the Arab/Muslim terrorist. How do I differentiate between the true Arab/Muslim-Americans and the Arab/Muslim terrorists in our communities who are attending our schools, enjoying our parks, and living in OUR communities under the protection of OUR constitution, while they plot the next attack that will slaughter these same good neighbors and children? The events of September 11th changed the answer. It is not my responsibility to determine which of you embraces our great country, with ALL of its religions, with ALL of its different citizens, with all of its faults. It is time for every Arab/Muslim in this country to determine it for me.
I want to know, I demand to know, and I have a right to know, whether or not you love America. Do you pledge allegiance to its flag? Do you proudly display it in front of your house, or on your car?
Do you pray in your many daily prayers that Allah will bless this nation, that He will protect and prosper it? Or do you pray that Allah with destroy it in one of your Jihads?
Are you thankful for the freedom that only this nation affords? A freedom that was paid for by the blood of hundreds of thousands of patriots who gave their lives for this country? Are you willing to preserve this freedom by also paying the ultimate sacrifice? Do you love America ? If this is your commitment, then I need YOU to start letting ME know about it.

JeannieJoy, you ask how what I say is anything other than anti-Christian. I don't see how what I wrote is anti-Christian, and it certainly was not my intent. I genuinely would like to know how you are coming to this conclusion :-) . I will offer that I was raised Christian here in the South, and based on what I learned, I am finding it hard to reconcile the proposed eradication of over 1 billion people with any sensible interpretation of Christian principles.
With regards to what you said about my comments concerning the Taliban, though, I reiterate that the Taliban did not attack us with anything other than their support of terrorism, which is as I said what we do with our petroleum dependency.

Your Muslim leaders in this nation should be flooding the media at this time with hard facts on your faith, and what hard actions you are taking as a community and as a religion to protect the United States of America. Please, no more benign overtures of regret for the death of the innocent because I worry about who you regard as innocent. No more benign overtures of condemnation for the unprovoked attacks because I worry about what is unprovoked to you. I am not interested in any more sympathy. I am only interested in action. What will you do for America - our great country - at this time of crisis, at this time of war? I want to see Arab-Muslims waving the AMERICAN flag in the streets. I want to hear you chanting "Allah Bless America " I want to see young Arab/Muslim men enlisting in the military. I want to see a commitment of money, time, and emotion to the victims of this butchering and to this nation as a whole.
The FBI has a list of over 400 people they want to talk to regarding the WTC attack. Many of these people live and socialize right now in Muslim communities. You know them. You know where they are.
Hand them over to us, now! But I have seen little even approaching this sort of action. Instead I have seen an already closed and secretive community close even tighter. You have disappeared from the streets. You have posted armed security guards at your facilities. You have threatened lawsuits. You have screamed for protection from reprisals. The very few Arab/Muslim representatives that HAVE appeared in the media were defensive and equivocating. They seemed more concerned with making sure that the United States proves who was responsible before taking action. They seemed more concerned with protecting their fellow Muslims from violence directed towards them in the United States and abroad than they did with supporting our country and denouncing "leaders" like Khadafi, Hussein, Farrakhan, and Arafat.

If the true teachings of Islam proclaim tolerance and peace and love for all people, then I want chapter and verse from the Koran and statements from popular Muslim leaders to back it up. What good is it if the teachings in the Koran are good, and pure, and true, when your "leaders" are teaching fanatical interpretations, terrorism, and intolerance? It matters little how good Islam SHOULD BE if huge numbers of the world's Muslims interpret the teachings of Mohammed incorrectly and adhere to a degenerative form of the religion. A form that has been demonstrated to us over and over again. A form whose structure is built upon a foundation of violence, death, and suicide. A form whose members are recruited from the prisons around the world. A form whose members (some as young as five years old)
are seen day after day, week in and week out, year after a year, marching in the streets around the world, burning effigies of our presidents, burning the American flag, shooting weapons into the air. A form whose members convert from a peaceful religion, only to take up arms against the great United States of America, the country of their birth. A form whose rules are so twisted, that their traveling members refuse to show their faces at airport security checkpoints, in the name of Islam.
We will NEVER allow the attacks of September 11, or any others for that matter, to take away that which is so precious to us: Our rights under the greatest constitution in the world. I want to know where every Arab Muslim in this country stands and I think it is my right and the right of every true citizen of this country to demand it A right paid for by the blood of thousands of my brothers and sisters who died protecting the very constitution that is protecting you and your family. I am pleading with you to let me know. I want you here as my brother, my neighbor, my friend, as a fellow American. But there can be no gray areas or ambivalence regarding your allegiance and it is up to YOU, to show ME, where YOU stand. Until then . "YOU WORRY ME!"

How am I misusing my intelligence? All I want people to do is to THINK. Where is the harm in that? Besides, it doesn't take an intelligent person to know that advocating (as poster Kerry did) the deaths of 1 billion people to be WRONG, no matter what your viewpoint.

Postman01... you are right. I think I was letting out some anger in my earlier posts, and I think that I was telling myself that it was because I want people to think a bit more. You are right on that point, and I should apologize for that. What I was DOING was exactly what I was railing against - emotion based attacks.
I DO genuinely want people to think more, and I'm having a hard time figuring out how people who are really thinking can end up with blanket hatred (which is not everyone here).
It is logical to be wary and suspicious of someone who looks like an adversary, and that sucks, because human beings are capable of being better than that. When I fly and I see what I perceive to be Middle-Eastern person on the plane, I DO size that person up. But I know that logically I am more likely to die from pilot error, and I choose to get over that.
War in the civilized world requires fear and hatred (fear's disguise) between two "people," and they have to feed back until one relents or utterly collapses as happened in the Cold War.
Personally, I'm a hell of a lot more afraid of Russia right now, especially with the Russian administration's claim of a major piece of the Arctic territory, in contravention to previous agreements.
Postman01, thanks again for pointing that out, and I apologize if I offended. It was not what I meant to do.

Somehow you all have turned this into a race/religion issue.
GCPD did not conduct the traffic stop. It was not their incident. They assisted BCSO with the incident after they asked for GCPD to assist. They conducted the initial traffic stop which led to the discovery of the suspicious materials, the laptop, etc. GCPD, GCFD, and other outside agencies assisted BCSO in securing the scene, ensuring public safety, etc.
The Stratford incident has nothing to do with this, and is not relevant, as the two are wholly and definitively different. As Jammer stated earlier - that incident's only flaw was that the criminal students knew beforehand. Had they been successful they would have been lauded. A few crybabies who probably deserved a little fear put in them are the reason it was blown out of proportion.
To those who think the reaction to incidents such as the one in question is an indication that the terrorists have won...be realistic - think again: They won a long time ago. Fear is their objective, and it was obtained on 11 Sep 2001 - if it hadn't been already. Everytime you see the color coded warning chart. Everytime you see 'Department of Homeland Security' or the other things that were created in response to 11 Sep remember that they have met their objective. Even if there is never another attack they still will have met their objective.

'Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can't take that away.
And I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee,
across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea,
From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA,
Well, there's pride in every American heart,
and it's time to stand and say:
I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.

Jeanine - ok, thanks, and I'm glad you know I wasn't attacking. Sorry I wasn't clearer.
Sigleroni, no I'm not native SC. I was born in Richmond, Virginia and was raised in NC on a horse from the age of 3 until I moved here five years ago. I would say I'm native NC. In my estimation my slightly rural NC upbringing is not an issue here. I've noticed a wealth of opinions all over SC.
You make a potentially good point about traveling back roads - definitely odd, and I hadn't considered that at all.
One of the reasons I started commenting was that beore the story was updated people were making lots of assumptions without much in the way of facts. I was waiting to hear that they had a trunk full of banned fireworks. It certainly sounds more dire now. I for one am wondering why federal charges are not being brought at this point, but I'll wait to hear what comes of the prosecution of these guys. A bomb is a bomb, and no one should have a bomb, right?
Once more I'll reiterate that I offer my comments just so people will think. I'm aware of the situation in which we as a nation are.
I just hope we all get through this without blowing ourselves apart, and I don't see how two sides looking at each other with resonant hatred is going to offer a resolution. And I still have a hard time seeing Islam as a warrior religion; given that Muslims are about 1/6th of the world's population, wouldn't that mean a hell of a lot more war? Or maybe that's to come? I truly hope not.

I have to say that I think so many of the posted comments are out of line. How would you feel if the police had looked in the trunk of this car and said "Hum, FIREWORKS, go have fun young fellows"??????? The police did not stop this car because of the color of the skin of the passengers. This was a routine traffic stop for speeding. Many people (young, old, black, white, ect.)have been searched. I believe many of you that are complaining would be the first to accuse the PD if this was not found and handled. The changes in the USA in the last 15-20 years is crazy but necessary due to terrorism and war. Please all of you be proud, be supportive and get real! When I fled from Vegas to here because of an abusive ex-husband, it was the GC police that patrolled by my house day and night to protect me. I am at an impasse here regarding this entire story...the Feds dropping an interest almost immediately tells me that what was in that trunk was not of any immediate importance, as they would have jumped all over two Middle Easterner's traveling so close to a military station with what have been called "pipe bombs". I am amazed that the Feds didn't realize what was in that trunk. I thought that FBI Agents went through rigorous training at Quantico...Kudos to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department and the Goose Creek Police Force for "one-upping" those federally-trained know-it-all's and showing them how to identify explosives...The next thing you know, Quantico will close, and the new FBI training facility will be right here, on Live Oak Drive in Moncks Corner! That will certainly put us on the map. The fact that it took so many hours for Berkeley County to release the findings after careful analysis of the trunks' contents, smacks of a cover-up to me. I am a little curious as to their being in Goose Creek to begin with...no word as to why, yet? They were headed away from the NWS, from what I understand. I can't believe that they were lost, as they had a GPS unit in the car. I do find it strange that neither of these men are taking what amounts to a full course load down in Florida...one of them has not even declared a major, and is only registered to take a 3 hour course in the Fall? He'll be 120 years old at graduation, at that rate. Is he allowed to remain in the U.S. as long as he's a registered student? Taking one class amounts to getting an education? That is ridiculous. I can't wait until relevent details emerge, as I think there is so much more to this than what we're hearing!

CAIR are counseling the Muslim Students at PACE University on how to precede with the hate crime charges against Stanislav Shmulevich for putting a copy of the Quran in a toilet!! (Putting a crucifix in urine = art, burning an American Flag = freedom of expression, putting the Quran in a toilet = HATE CRIME!).
CAIR are representing 6 Imams that were thrown off USAirways flight 300 on November 21, 2006 and are suing the passengers that reported the Imams suspicious activities (John Doe prosecution).
CAIR has been named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the ongoing "Holy Foundation" Trial in Dallas. The "Holy Foundation" has been indicted for supplying funds to the terrorist group HAMAS!
CAIR recently sent a threat letter to the Young American Foundation stating that if they allowed Robert Spencer of Jihadwatch.org to speak, they would "use every legal avenue" to stop them (that dirty little freedom of speech right).

Fireworks are legal in SC. 99% of the SC police know what is legal vs. illegal when it comes to fireworks. They are also trained in how to ID IED's
I am sure something in the conversation between the police and the suspects made the police suspicious prompting further investigation and questions at the scene.
I spoke with and EOD friend from work and was told the device or materials could have been interrupted and not detonated. Interruption would save the material for evidence and detonation would obviously destroy the material.
Then you have the guy from CAIR saying from day one they had left over fireworks in their car from the 4th of July? Before any of this was told in the press? Doesn't sound right to me.

"The spectrum and percentages of cancer are massive.
There are at least 4 classifications of blood-cell
cancers: leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's and myeloma.
There are many more classifications of soft tissue
cancers. There is brain cancer. There is breast
cancer. For most of these there are subclassifications
of many different types of specific cancer in each, so
far not publicly disclosed. There are huge percentages
of respiratory distress and loss of function. Multiple
reports of 'irregular cycles' (miscarriages?). Most
likely there will be several more types of cancer to
follow. In particular, responders should be checked
for thyroid cancer and function. There has been no
noting of birth defects which also needs to be done.
There is one thing and only one thing that can cause
all these cancers and problems - RADIATION."

The latest from the AP wire is here, on Fox...you might want to note that Mohamed admitted in his statement that he "made pipe bombs from items he had bought at Wal-Mart." If a local country boy had done this, there wouldn't be much excitement, but then, it's post-9/11, and these guys are Muslims...sounds like a poor choice of entertainment to me.

Underdog, I am not offended. That is for the WEAK MINDED and it is distressing to me to see the thought processes of the weak minded enshrined as being somehow profound when they are in fact WEAK MINDED and there is no profundity to it whatsoever.
We all make mistakes and I have made many. I try to LEARN FROM THEM, an enormous contrast to the weak mindedness I am criticizing.
You are right about Russia. The WEAK MINDEDNESS of Communism (the most extreme form of left wing ideology) has so messed up the minds of enough people there that they believe foolish things. The only thing that makes them fearsome is their possession of the Bomb. Other than that, a nation with enormous potential has been made common by weak mindedness and then only because of the cowardly behavior of a numerical majority.
As for the subject of this thread, I reluctantly conclude that the gov't should be tight lipped. We are at war (which changes everything) and the imperative of not giving our enemies any information that they can use against us is controlling here.
Our body politic seems to be incapable of realizing completely that screwed up people exist and can not be changed. This irrationality is made clear by LEFT WINGER insistence on punishing "crime" when it occurs domestically and yet acting schizophenic when it's "international". Even demanding of the weak minded LEFT WINGER an explanation of why jails and mental hospitals exist in every society on this planet doesn't clear the dense fog infecting and impairing their thought and emotive processes.

Postman01, good points, glad to know I'm not alone on the Russia thing. With their resources it is amazing that they are not THE superpower.
As for the developments of the story - the admission of deliberately making pipe bombs... that does change things. If these guys were not up to anything terrorist-ish, they sure as hell made a bad call. I can see how they may have just made the things to have fun (who didn't blow things up when they were a kid)... but the evidence at this point is against them, and how could they be THAT dumb - this isn't the day or the place to be Middle Eastern with illegal incendiary devices, that's for damn sure.
Postman01, again, thanks for pointing out my error before, and I'm glad I took a moment to realize the error. I don't see things the same way you do (I can't seem to distill things into left and right, conservative and liberal), but I guess that IS the point of America, different people with different viewpoints coming together for a common good, which is why I love discussions like the one today.

But don't expect to be loved or even liked until you are proven not to be a hazard to us. We've seen how many Arab's are taught/trained to "assimilate until time" so don't expect anyone to trust you until you've proven yourself.
Sorry but that's the cold hard facts in a war like this.
It seems we help so many people over there only to have them later shoot us in the back, so how do we know who really wants to be American and who is lying?

peacenlove, I understand and appreciate what you're saying, but it's pretty hard for the average American to be convinced of any great degree of Middle Eastern love for the US (with a very few exceptions) when it appears that there's very little effort on the part of most Middle Eastern countries to help stem the tide of terrorism. On the contrary, we (and I really don't pretend to be speaking for all of America) see widespread disdain for America's efforts, despite the fact that we're the most 'giving' country in on the planet. We can blame some of this perception on biased media coverage, but there's just cause in many cases... In the meantime, why not write your local sheik and ask him to fork over a few billion to combat terrorism... That would be a good start, and the gesture just might make our headlines!
