Business editor John P. McDermott has covered multiple business beats, with specialties in real estate and economic development, since he joined The Post and Courier staff in 1993. He is a graduate of the University of Hawaii and previously worked for the San Diego Union, the Honolulu Advertiser, Pacific Business News and the Washington (D.C.) Business Journal.
Warren Wise focuses on utilities, the retail sector and general business assignments. Wise, a graduate of the University of South Carolina, joined The Post and Courier in 1997 and has covered Berkeley County, North Charleston, Santee Cooper, the General Assembly and state government. Wise started his career in Darlington as a general assignments reporter with a focus on city and county government before being named editor. He later became managing editor at The Easley Progress in Easley before joining The Post and Courier. A South Carolina native, Wise has won more than three dozen local, state and national awards for excellence in journalism, including Journalist of the Year in South Carolina five times.
David Slade writes a personal finance column aimed at helping average folks save money, often with tips about government tax policies. He also covers Charleston city and county governments. Slade has been a newspaper reporter since 1992 and has won numerous state and national awards for his reporting on property taxation and governmental affairs. He was previously editor of a business magazine covering the international gemstone trade. Slade holds a master's degree in public affairs reporting from Sangamon State University (now University of Illinois/Springfield) and a bachelor's degree from Temple University.
