Saturday Clemson briefing

Morning, everyone.

Feels kinda strange to be sitting here on a Saturday morning with no work to do and college football to watch. Actually, it feels kinda good.

Obviously, the story of the day is on Willy Korn supplanting Cullen Harper as Clemson's starting quarterback.

I'll offer more thoughts on this in a later post. For now, here is

our story

on the situation, plus a report card looking back at Thursday's debacle.

Paul Strelow of The State says the

first ax

has fallen at Clemson, while also providing a

recap

of the game.

Heather Dinich of ESPN.com blasts the coaching staff for making Harper

a scapegoat.

Seneca columnist Greg Oliver, a longtime Tommy Bowden supporter, has

seen enough.

And Gene Frenette of the Florida Times-Union had this to say:

It looks like a coaching Bowden might leave the Atlantic Coast Conference stage this year, but not the one expected when the season began. Barring a miracle finish, Clemson's Tommy Bowden is headed for another subpar season. It's hard to imagine one of coaching's survivors escaping a pink slip the way his offense-challenged Tigers are performing.

Thursday night's 12-7 loss to Wake Forest, even with a weapon such as C.J. Spiller sidelined by injury and Jacoby Ford hurting, makes it difficult for Clemson to get back in the ACC title chase after being an overwhelming favorite.

Bowden is barely above .500 in conference play since 2001 (32-27), and this would be his 10th season in the ACC without winning a championship. At Clemson, that's a recipe for administrators drawing up the buyout papers. ...
