Gameday in Winston-SalemPosted 07:18 a.m., October 9, 2008 Morning, everyone. Plenty of coverage in today's Post and Courier. The focuses on how Clemson needs this game as much for its confidence as for conference standing. Gene Sapakoff has a on the Tigers, and he asks a great question: How many "Win one for the Gipper" speeches went irrelevant after the target audience stormed out of the locker room and got clobbered? And, of course, we have our take on the game's key matchups and a prediction in our Our call is Wake Forest 24, Clemson 20. Would we be surprised to see the Tigers walk out of there with a victory, even a convincing one? Heck no. But the bottom line is this: What has Clemson done thus far to engender faith that such an outcome is possible? Very little. I watched the Wake Forest-Florida State game from beginning to end, and, despite some sloppiness from the Demon Deacons' offense, I was impressed with what I saw on both sides of the ball. That team went into Tallahassee for a big-game setting and dominated Florida State. The offense found a way to move the ball against a fast, aggressive defense. And the defense absolutely toyed with the Seminoles' offense. Wake Forest isn't nearly as talented as Clemson, but the Deacons have a veteran group that plays with toughness and confidence. The Tigers have wiped Wake off the field in the last five quarters, outscoring them 68-10. Could Clemson extend that dominance tonight? Sure, it could happen. But we'll believe it when we see it. I'll post some more links and stuff a little later. LW |

I've got a good feeling about tonight. I think the players and coaches feel the urgency and will come out ready to play. They also probably know in the back of their minds if they don't win, it could be the beginning of the end for Bowden.
Clemson 24
