Bad news on Rashaad Jackson

Posted 10:39 a.m., August 11, 2008

Just got word from SID Tim Bourret that senior defensive tackle Rashaad Jackson has a torn quad tendon and is out until at least midseason.

This was a surprise to the team's medical staff, which initially was fairly confident that Jackson had suffered only a sprain. Coach Tommy Bowden also said yesterday he believed Jackson was going to be OK.

That was before the return of the MRI results, though. Sounds like they came in yesterday evening, and the medical staff wanted to take a little more time to make sure it was what they feared before releasing the info this morning.

Tough blow for the defensive front, but the Tigers have some depth up there. I'm guessing that means Jamie Cumbie is now the man at the tackle position beside Dorell Scott.

The Tigers are practicing right now. The session will be over at about noon, and I'll be there to get some reaction.
