The Summerville High School gym is getting a new name in honor of a former coach.

The gym will be dedicated to former Summerville basketball coach Louis Mulkey, who was one of nine firefighters killed in the 2007 Sofa Super Store fire in Charleston.

Mulkey was a graduate of Summerville High who returned to the school to coach. He was an assistant basketball and football coach at the school and in Summerville youth leagues.

The gym will be called “The Fire House” in Mulkey’s honor, and a wall within the gym will be dedicated to him.

An official dedication ceremony will be held at the first home basketball game for the 2016-17 season.
