Fortunately, for Summerville, high school basketball games are decided after four quarters.

The Green Wave used a 9-1 run just before halftime to take a 37-28 lead and never looked back, rolling to an 80-61 win over the Swamp Foxes.

Summerville improved to 15-3 overall, and more importantly, 2-1 in region eight play heading into a key region showdown with Fort Dorchester on Tuesday.

Ashley Ridge dropped to 9-7 overall and 1-2 in league play.

“It’s a big win for us because it gets us to 2-1,” Summerville coach Greg Elliott said. “It’s going to be hard to come all the way back and win this tough region after a 1-2 start so we needed the win. I thought both teams played like they knew they needed to win. It was a good high school atmosphere, a good crowd. It was a fun night, especially since we won.”

Senior small forward Terrelle Bowens scored 20 of his game-high 27 points in the second half, this after senior guard Tru’Shaun Moorer and sophomore post Shaquan Davis carried the load in the first half.

Moorer finished with 25 points, scoring 13 in the first half, while Davis had 14 of his 18 points in the opening two quarters.

“Terrelle is a scoring machine and he had one shot in the first quarter,” Elliott said. “We made a real effort in the second half to get him the ball. He’s our best player and he has to get the basketball.”

Summerville opened up a 14-point lead at 47-33 with four minutes left in the third quarter and maintained a 56-42 lead heading into the final period. Bowens scored the first two baskets of the third and tallied nine points in the decisive period.

Davis opened the fourth quarter with a crowd-pleasing thunderous dunk and Ashley Ridge would get no closer than 13 points in the final stanza.

Ashley Ridge guard Hakeem Ellington finished with 23 points and kept the Swamp Foxes in the game with five 3-pointers in the first half. Point guard Jeremiah King added 18 points while senior forward Brandon Brown scored 11. The Swamp Foxes led 17-15 after one quarter.

“I thought we played a better second half defensively,” Elliott said. “They just hit every shot in the first half. Ellington made some really big three’s and we didn’t guard the perimeter very well. We did a better job defensively outside the arc in the second half and we cut down on the turnovers. We were able to shoot well and we forced some stuff with good defensive pressure that allowed us to run out a little.”
