Tom Ervin, an independent candidate for governor, told prospective voters in Greenville Tuesday that he is planning to emerge as a serious contender to unseat Gov. Nikki Haley, according to a story on the Greenville News website.

Ervin said freedom from outside influence, upgrading the state's infrastructure and restoring trust in state government are keystone issues in his bid for governor, the story said. He spoke to a couple dozen residents at a town-hall style meeting.
