A woman's tale of being held at gunpoint Wednesday morning in Lincolnville was unfounded, authorities determined.
Charleston County sheriff's deputies and a SWAT team surrounded a Railroad Avenue home after the woman reported being held hostage.
When authorities arrived at the home they found the woman outside, according to Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson. The woman indicated, however, that at least two other people were still inside the home, including a 12-year-old.
A man and the child walked out of the home and were questioned around noon. An elderly woman was also found inside the home, Watson said.
Their version of events led authorities to believe that the woman was never held at gunpoint, Watson said. The woman was transported for a medical and mental evaluation, he said.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
