Seeking to expand on a theme that gubernatorial candidate Vincent Sheheen has hit consistently during this year's race, the South Carolina Democratic Party announced a website Tuesday officials say will continue to highlight issues with the administration of Gov. Nikki Haley.
The Tumblr site, called "Haley's Smoke and Mirrors" will call attention to issues for the remainder of the campaign.
"From distorting the jobs numbers to concealing her economic failures, to allowing children to be kept in danger to mismanagement at DSS and covering up the hacking of people's Social Security Numbers - Nikki Haley has shown time and again that she cannot be trusted," said Conor Hurley, SCDP executive director, in a statement. "It's our job to hold her accountable, and that's exactly what we're doing with this microsite and digital initiative."
Haley's campaign hit back, calling attention to Sheheen's latest television ad on hacking that has been criticized and clients he has represented as a defense attorney.
"The irony is thick here - a guy who has been called out by independent fact check organizations for lying in his television ads is criticizing Governor Haley on the issue of truth-telling," said Chaney Adams, a Haley campaign spokeswoman. "At the end of the day, it's just another attempt by Vince Sheheen to distract from his liberal record and his choice to get paid for reducing the jail time of men who violently attacked South Carolina women, children, and law enforcement."
