An armed robbery early Monday ended in shots fired in North Charleston, according to police.

A man, armed with a semi-automatic pistol, approached a guest at the La Quinta Inn off Ashley Phosphate Road and robbed him of $40 around 2 a.m., according to an incident report. The suspect then drove away in a blue Mercury Grand Marquis.

The robbed man and his brother chased after the suspect in a white Impala and followed the man down Rivers Avenue. The chase entered a neighborhood near Robertson and Longleaf avenues, then came to an end when the suspect jumped out of his vehicle and fired multiple shots toward the brothers, police said.

The victim's white Impala was disabled by the bullets, prompting the brothers to run from the scene and call police. No injuries were reported in the shooting, police said.

Investigators found multiple shell casings on Longleaf Street. They also found the suspect vehicle abandoned in the area, according to the report.

The robber has not been identified, Deputy Chief Scott Deckard said Tuesday morning.

The brothers described the suspect to police as a black man, 6 feet tall with a stocky build and a small amount of facial hair. The man wore a white shirt, jeans and a black hat.
