The Employer Support of Guard and Reserves presented Sheriff Al Cannon with the organization's Patriot Award on Tuesday morning, according to a news release.
The award recognizes supervisors and agencies that display support for employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve units.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office has 13 sworn employees who are assigned to the National Guard and Reserve, with two currently on active duty, according to the news release. The Cannon Detention Center has 13 employees with three currently on active duty.
Patriot Award recipients were first nominated by their employees who serve with the National Guard and Reserve, the release said.
Cannon was presented with the award during a ceremony 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lonnie Hamilton Public Services Building, 4045 Bridgeview Drive in North Charleston.
