A local fitness studio is organizing a 30-day fitness challenge with proceeds to benefit My Sister's House, a local nonprofit which serves victims of domestic violence.
The reFORM Studios, located at 1081 E Montague Avenue, North Charleston, is accepting up to 25 local women into the Charleston 30-30 Challenge, which starts on Sept. 22.
The "challenge" is to exercise for 30 minutes per day for 30 days with instruction, support and personal training from a team of trainers at reFORM.
One of the 25 contestants will be chosen as having the "best transformation" and awarded a $500 grand prize, with the option of keeping the money or donating it to my Sister's House. The studio will donate 10 percent of challenge fee proceeds to the nonprofit.
"This is a way for us to give back to the community," says Cobb. "Not only can we help a lot of women get their bodies back, but we can raise money for a worthy local cause. It's a winner any way you look at it."
Cobb and her team have created a very structured system for this challenge.
Each participant is given a thorough fitness assessment, a personalized exercise and nutrition program, eight personal training sessions, unlimited access to his team for questions and an invitation to participate in the weekly community group workouts on Saturday mornings as well.
Similar to "The Biggest Loser" TV show, at the end of the 30 days, all participants will be assessed again and a winner chosen.
"Some of the busiest women in Charleston, including mothers of small children and high-powered professionals, are my clients. They all exercise with us on a near-daily basis, despite the demands on their time," says Cobb.
"Any woman who is committed to having her best body, and literally changing her life in the process, can find 30 minutes for 30 days, especially when the benefits are this dramatic. Our goal is to give Charleston women the kick start, support and instruction they need to learn the fitness habit."
While the cost of the program is $349, Cobb says the value of all the services - the assessments, personalized fitness and nutrition plans, email coaching and group training classes on Saturdays -- is $1,579.
