A power outage forced Trident Technical College in North Charleston to cancel some classes Thursday.

The situation started around 8:25 a.m. when power was expected to be shut down at buildings 100 through 800, college spokesman David Hansen said.

Students were asked to leave the buildings but to stay on the campus at 7000 Rivers Ave., as the electricity was supposed to return within the hour.

The problem was caused by a failed cable and fuse at Trident Tech, according to an S.C. Electric & Gas spokeswoman.

College employees were still trying to resolve the issue Thursday afternoon. SCE&G is assisting in the repair.

The outage caused college officials to cancel classes in buildings 100-800, except building 630. Thursday night's classes in the Main Campus and 630 would continue as planned.
