Tom Ervin, a petition candidate for governor, is a former Upstate lawmaker with Lowcountry connections, according to a story posted on WCIV-TV Channel 4's website.
Ervin, who describes himself as an independent Republican, walked along the waterfront with WCIV reporter, Bill Burr.
"This is the gateway for South Carolina and what we have to do is protect the Charleston Harbor," Ervin said. The story said Ervin may not be a household name yet, but he is hoping his TV commercials increase his name recognition.
Ervin wants to repeal the state's income tax, raise the minimum wage, focus on the ports of Charleston and Georgetown, and continue ethics reform for lawmakers, among other issues, the story said.
