A 61-year-old motorcyclist died Monday morning in a crash on Bushy Park Road near Goose Creek, according to the Berkeley County Coroner's Office.
Authorities were summoned at 8:16 a.m. to the wreck near the Bushy Park Boat Landing on the Cooper River. The scene is just north of Red Bank Road and Naval Weapons Station Charleston.
Brian Christian Giesick of Ladson had somehow lost control on his way home from work and crashed, Coroner Bill Salisbury said. Giesick was pronounced dead around 8:55 a.m. at a local hospital, the coroner said.
He was not wearing a helmet, Salisbury said.
The S.C. Highway Patrol was investigating what caused Giesick to lose control of his motorcycle.
During the weekend before Giesick's death Monday morning, seven traffic fatalities had been reported statewide, according to the S.C. Department of Public Safety.
Of those deaths from 6 p.m. Friday to midnight Sunday, five of the seven victims were not wearing seat belts.
Through Sunday, 460 people had died in South Carolina traffic wrecks, compared with 483 during the same period last year, according to the state agency's weekly update on fatality statistics.
Of that total, 26 deaths were reported in Charleston County, 18 in Berkeley County and six in Dorchester County.
