Steve Skipton, Sr., a Goose Creek and former New Jersey firefighter who co-owned the popular SConFire.com website, died Saturday after a battle with cancer. He was 41.
Skipton was diagnosed with lung cancer on May 28th. Firefighters from here to New Jersey and points in between immediately rallied around him to raise money for his family and spread awareness.
Many of those same people took to social media Saturday to mourn and remember a man who spent several weeks at Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks and volunteered in his community.
In recent years, he became part owner of SConFire.com, a website that tracks fires and firefighter issues across the state.
Skipton leaves behind his wife, two boys ages 23 and 19, and twin, 7-year-old girls.
Funeral arrangements have not been posted.
Donations can be made at his gofundme account.
