Infant dropped off at hospital under DSS custody

COLUMBIA - An infant is in the custody of the Department of Social Services after being dropped off on Wednesday at a hospital in Lexington.

DSS staff of Lexington County say a baby boy, reportedly born on Tuesday, was taken to the Lexington Medical Center-Urgent Care, where staff took custody of the boy under the Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act.

The three-day-old infant is a "healthy Caucasian male" who weighs seven pounds, DSS officials report. He is now with DSS.

A person wishing to claim parental rights over the child must do so at a permanency planning hearing at the Lexington County Family Court on Oct. 15 at 2 p.m.
