A man who barricaded himself inside a Colleton County home overnight and fired at deputies was taken into custody Friday, the Colleton County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies and SWAT team members surrounded the house on Rum Gully Goad in Islandton around 3:50 p.m. Thursday to serve an order of detention to a Jerome Brand, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Amye Stivender said.
Brand pulled a rifle on deputies and threatened to shoot them, a release said. A standoff between the man and law enforcement lasted about 12 hours. Called to assist were Charleston County Sheriff's Office, Colleton County Fire Rescue, and the Department of Natural Resources.
While Brand was holed up, he fired a round that struck a Charleston County armored tactical vehicle, deputies said.
Brand was arrested around 4 a.m. Friday. He was transported to a hospital for a mental evaluation, Stivender said.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Deputies said Brand would be served warrants for attempted murder after his release from the hospital.
