2013: 6-4 in SCISA 8-man
Coach: Archie Horne (Fourth season)
Returning starters: 7 (4 offense, 3 defense)
Players to Watch: LB Nathaniel Reyes, DB/WR Karrington Stoney, RB/DB Malik Baqui, RB/DB Jermaine Snider
When the roster includes only 16 players, avoiding injuries becomes even more important.
That's the situation again this season for Charleston Collegiate, which went 6-4 last year in SCISA's eight-man football league.
"Staying healthy is always the key at Charleston Collegiate," said coach Archie Horne, who has been with the Johns Island program since 2007, and has been head coach since 2011.
The Sundevils return seven starters from last year's squad, four on offense and three on defense.
Linebacker Nathaniel Reyes was the top tackler a year ago, with 112 stops.
Defensive back Karrington Stoney will also double as a receiver, while Malik Baqui will play running back and defensive back along with Jermaine Snider.
"We had a good season last year, and we lost a few from that team," Horne said. "But with the players we have and some transfers, I think we'll be competitive."
In preseason, quarterback has been a three-man race between Kymet Laboard, C.J. Walker and Kegan Boone, Horne said.
