An arrest has been made after a Cross woman was fatally struck while walking along a Berkeley County road Tuesday.
Terry Walter Erdman, 32, of Cross was arrested Thursday night and booked into the Berkeley County jail, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Hannah Wimberly. He is charged with leaving the scene of a collision involving death.
Peggy Ann Cain, 59, of Cross, was found lying on Trojan Road around 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury. She was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
The Highway Patrol and the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office investigated her death as a hit-and-run.
A state trooper stopped a white Chevrolet minivan with missing parts that matched evidence at the hit-and-run scene on Shortcut Road off S.C. Highway 45 Thursday, Wimberly said. Erdman's girlfriend was driving the van and told the officer where he was. He was taken into custody at his work.
Erdman also had arrest warrants for other violations from the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, Wimberly said.
Jail records list third-degree assault and battery, malicious injury to property and criminal domestic violence as other charges.
