An Upstate company is bringing some of its health-care staffing franchises back in house, including its Charleston outpost.
Lyman-based Southern Home Medical Inc. said Wednesday that it has completed the purchase of Encore Medical Staffing operations in five markets in South Carolina and Tennessee with a combination of cash and stock. The price was not disclosed.
Encore is a wholly owned subsidiary of Southern Home Medical, which began selling franchises in mid-2007, starting with the Charleston location. As of July 31, the parent company also repurchased locations in Florence, Columbia, Nashville and Murfreesboro, Tenn.
"The buyback of these offices is a critical stage in expansion of our product mix and corporate revenues," Southern Home Medical said in a written statement.
CEO Jeff Sarvis said more franchise acquisitions "are close at hand."
Encore provides nurses and other health care workers to medical facilities on a contractual basis. The staffing firm's other offices are in Greenville, Myrtle Beach, Lake Hartwell, Atlanta, Savannah, Dallas and Austin, Texas.
