A fight between several young men late Monday afternoon near a busy area of downtown Charleston ended when one of them fired about eight gunshots, according to a police report.
Nobody was hurt in the gunfire before 6 p.m. near 19 Ashton St., which is north of the Septima P. Park Parkway and Courtenay Drive.
That's when several black males dressed in black clothes got into an altercation about something, an incident report from the Charleston Police Department stated.
Exactly what sparked the gunshots wasn't clear. Nobody and no cars or houses were reported to have been hit by bullets.
One witness told the police that he saw a skinny man with a short haircut and standing about 6 feet, 2 inches tall "firing a handgun down Ashton Street." He named the suspect as "Mr. Razor."
Police officers later found eight silver and black 9 mm shell casings between 19 Ashton St. and 23 Ashton St.
The suspect, an 18-year-old President Street man, had not been jailed Tuesday, and police spokesman Charles Francis refused to confirm whether he was wanted for arrest.
"The case is still under investigation," Francis said.
