GREENWOOD, S.C. - A former Lander University employee has pleaded guilty to pilfering more than $400,000 from the Greenwood college over four years.
The Index-Journal of Greenwood reports that a judge on Thursday determined 48-year-old Francis Wayne McMahan will serve 5 years probation and do 400 hours of community service as punishment.
He's also been sentenced to repay nearly $69,000 in restitution.
Prosecutors say McMahan was an information technology specialist at the school between 2009 and 2013. Using a state credit card, they say he spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on software and computer equipment, then sold the items online and kept the proceeds for himself.
