EASLEY, S.C. - A Pickens County Sheriff's deputy has been hospitalized after crashing his patrol car into a tree in Easley.
Chief Deputy Creed Hashe says in a news release that Deputy Thomas Camp was responding to a call of a large animal in the road after 4 a.m. Thursday when he drove off the road and hit a tree.
The 2014 Ford patrol car was likely totaled, and Hashe says Camp was admitted to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Hashe says Camp has been a deputy since July 2011. The State Highway Patrol is investigating, and troopers told media outlets Camp was trying to avoid a deer in the road when he lost control of his car and crashed.
