Because of the time difference between the U.S. and the U.K., the latter's best soccer matches generally air here early in the day, which is reason enough for My Father's Moustache to bake beans.

Starting this weekend, the Mt. Pleasant pub - which established itself as a soccer bar during the World Cup - is serving "an extensive English breakfast menu" on Saturdays and Sundays during the European soccer league season. In addition to nominally English items such as breakfast sandwiches and waffles, My Father's Moustache plans to offer bubble-and-squeak and a fry-up.

"To eat well in England, you should have breakfast three times a day," writer W. Somerset Maugham once said, and he likely had the full English breakfast of sausage, bacon, broiled tomatoes, baked beans, mushrooms, tomatoes and fried eggs in mind. Not every Brit is as enamored with the combination, though.

"This is the most overrated of British dishes, the scourge of the breakfast table, and the cruelest of ends for some of our finest produce," a blogger for The Guardian trolled last year. "Even the name is shuddersome, unhealthy and redolent of all those Joliveresque expressions that revel in redundant prepositions." ("Joliveresque" refers to British cooking star Jamie Oliver, who describes the fry-up as "one of life's simple pleasures.")

For patrons of My Father's Moustache who are similarly contrarian, the bar this weekend is celebrating its breakfast menu's official debut with a barbecue lunch.
