Charleston police have released surveillance photos of several men who may have witnessed or been part of an attack that seriously injured a man on King Street early Sunday morning.
Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
Billy Schilling, 26, of Bluffton told police he was walking past 455 King St. with his wife shortly before 1 a.m. when a man made a crude remark about his wife, then came up and punched him without warning. Schilling hit his head on the sidewalk, fracturing his skull.
The suspect was described as a 6-foot to 6-foot-4-inch white man with a stocky build and short light-brown hair, clad in a polo shirt and khaki shorts. Schilling's wife told police that the man looked like a football linebacker.
Schilling left Medical University Hospital Sunday night and was resting at home earlier this week. His recovery could take months, according to his family.
He has a 7-month-old son and was working as a personal trainer, a boat captain and a liquor distributor.
Anybody with information about the attack or the men in the photos is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
