Corey Washington is making a strong case for a New York Giants roster spot. For the second straight NFL preseason game, the North Charleston High School graduate scored the game-winning touchdown for the Giants with the latest big play coming in Saturday night's 20-16 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers at MetLife Stadium.
Backup quarterback Curtis Painter hit Washington with a 3-yard pass with 2:50 remaining. Washington caught three passes for 23 yards in the game.
A 6-4 undrafted rookie from Newberry College, Washington also scored the game-winning touchdown in New York's 17-13 victory over Buffalo in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.
Against the Bills, Washington and quarterback Ryan Nassib combined on a 73-yard pass play. He dedicated the touchdown to his late cousin G-Vonne Washington, a 6-year-old who drowned at a North Charleston apartment complex in 2010.
The Giants' next game is against the Colts in Indianapolis on Saturday night.
