Five states represented in 21st Fishing for Miracles King Mackerel Tournament
Anglers from five states have entered and pre-registration numbers are up from a year ago for the 21st annual Fishing for Miracles King Mackerel Tournament that will be fished Friday and Saturday out of Ripley Light Yacht Club.
"We're expecting 200 boats, hope to have over 200 but don't know," said tournament co-chairman John Gourdin. "We have boats from Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina entered already."
The last time the tournament drew 200 entries was 2009. Only 130 boats participated a year ago with the Stray Dog fishing crew out of Beaufort topping the field with a 39.76-pound catch on the first day of the tournament. Stray Dog won $27,565.
Since its inception the tournament has raised more than $687,500 for its two charities, the MUSC Children's Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the Coastal Conservation Association of South Carolina. Tournament anglers have pocketed $387,831 over the last five events.
Friday's weigh-in runs from 2-5 p.m., while Saturday's weigh-in will be from 1-4 p.m.
