Charleston County sheriff's deputies responded overnight Wednesday to a shooting in Hollywood.

A man arrived at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital around 1 a.m. with gunshot wounds he received while walking on Ethel Post Office Road, according to an incident report.

A black Dodge Charger approached the man on the road, he reported to investigators. An unknown person fired a single shot from the vehicle, sending multiple pellets into the man's hands, arms and chest, deputies said.

The man did not see the gunman, but he told deputies the shooting may have been an act of retaliation in connection with an assault he had been accused of earlier this year.

A suspect in the incident had not been identified Wednesday afternoon.
