A 19-year-old North Charleston woman was charged with murder Wednesday after her boyfriend was stabbed to death earlier this week.
Alex Whipple, 22, of Charleston, was fatally stabbed Monday afternoon at the house of his girlfriend, Akara Edwards of Kent Street, according to North Charleston police and the Charleston County Coroner's Office.
Edwards told investigators that Whipple arrived at her house with a hammer. She said her boyfriend got mad when she would not come outside and took the hammer to a car in her yard.
Edwards said she walked outside with a kitchen knife and asked Whipple to leave. She told police he threw the hammer down and charged her and the knife ended up his chest.
Edwards surrendered to police Wednesday night and was charged with murder.
