Beth Daniel Junior Azalea

What: Ninety junior golfers ages 13-18 competing over 36 holes

When: Tuesday-Wednesday, tee times between 8:30-10:36 a.m.

Participants in the Beth Daniel Junior Azalea golf tournament will be back on familiar ground Tuesday when the 36-hole S.C. Junior Golf Association event is played at the Country Club of Charleston.

Last year's Junior Azalea was played at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek while the U.S. Women's Amateur was contested at the Country Club of Charleston. Reona Hirai of Summerville, who went on to win the SCJGA's Beth Daniel Player of the Year, won the girls' division by three shots over Anne Taylor Hough of Spartanburg. Tyler Young of Kennesaw, Ga., beat Will Miles of Hilton Head by the same margin in the boys' division.

Neither Hirai nor Young are entered this year but Hough and Miles are competing. Nine of the top 15 players in the SCJGA girls' rankings will be participating at the Country Club of Charleston, including No. 1-ranked Jaelyn Tindal of Rock Hill. Hough is ranked No. 7.

The boys' division includes five of the top 15 SCJGA players, led by No. 2 Bryson Nimmer of Bluffton and No. 3 Trace Crowe of Bluffton.

Tee times Tuesday and Wednesday begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 10:36 a.m., with play starting on both nines.

The tournament honors Daniel, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame who learned to play golf at the Country Club of Charleston.
