Fatalities in 2014
The S.C. Department of Public Safety reported 428 people killed statewide in fatal wrecks between Jan. 1 and Aug. 3. In 2013, 433 deaths were reported during the same time period, state officials said.
According to the state Department of Public Safety, three of the four deaths reported between Friday and Sunday occurred on U.S., state and secondary roads, with the remaining fatality occurring on an interstate.
Two of the people killed were not wearing seat belts, authorities said.
The deaths brought this year's total to 428, compared with the 433 highway deaths reported this time last year, officials said.
Of those deaths, 22 were reported in Charleston County.
Berkeley County reported 16 deaths, Public Safety numbers show. Six people were killed in Dorchester County.
