North Charleston Police have detained a driver in connection with reports of gun shots on Rivers Avenue Sunday afternoon.

A man called dispatchers shortly before 1:30 p.m. to report that he had just fired "warning shots" at another man who was harassing him for a ride, North Charleston Police Department spokesman Spencer Pryor said.

The incident happened in the area of 7400 Rivers Avenue at the North Pointe Plaza shopping center near Ashley Phosphate Road. Pryor said witnesses told police officers they saw two men talking when one of the men got into a vehicle to leave. As the man was driving off, witnesses told police that he fired several shots into the air.

No one was injured in the incident, Pryor said. Police have detained the suspect and have located the weapon that is believed to have been fired.

Information on any pending charges against the alleged shooter was not immediately available.

The location of Sunday's incident is less than a mile from Northwoods Mall where a man was shot in the parking lot there less than a week ago. Two teenagers are facing charges of attempted murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during a violent crime in connection with that shooting.
