A Charleston county jury found a 33-year-old man guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl in a beauty salon two years ago.
Christopher Gilyard was charged with second-degree sexual conduct with a minor. A jury found him guilty Friday, and Judge Deadra Jefferson sentenced him to 13 years in prison, according to the 9th Circuit Solicitor's Office.
Court records list Gilyard's address as both Orangeburg and Otranto Road in North Charleston, and the Solicitor's Office declined to say what address he gave the court during the trial. The office also declined to say where the crime occurred.
The girl testified that she was babysitting her 3-year-old nephew in a beauty salon in July 2012. Gilyard was an employee. She said he cornered her in a back hallway while her nephew was sleeping, held her down and raped her, and threatened to kill her if she screamed.
The girl reported the incident about a month later, and Gilyard was arrested and charged.
Assistant Solicitor Shannon Elliott praised the teen for coming forward despite the threat.
