Authorities are trying to identify a man they said evaded them twice in Mount Pleasant this week.
Charleston County Sheriff's Office deputies tried to stop a car for speeding Monday night near Interstate 526 and Long Point Road in Mount Pleasant, but the vehicle didn't pull over, according to investigators. Deputies lost sight of the car.
At about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, authorities spotted a vehicle matching the same description and tried stopping the car again, according to Maj. Eric Watson.
While deputies were in pursuit of the car, the front tire blew out and the driver got out and ran behind the Lowe's near Towne Centre, officials said.
Authorities set up a perimeter around the area and a helicopter was in the air for the search, Watson said. The search was called off at around 1 p.m.
Authorities are working to identify the suspect through their investigation, Watson said.
Officials described the suspect as a black male 5 feet 5 inches, about 130 to 140 pounds and between the ages of 19 and 25.
The abandoned car was a Hertz rental, officials said.
