CLEMSON - The consensus betting lines for Week 1 games are out on VegasInsider.com, and Georgia opens as a 9-point favorite over visiting Clemson on Aug. 30 at Sanford Stadium.
There is this to know about the Tigers: since the start of the 2011 season, when offensive coordinator Chad Morris and quarterback Tajh Boyd took center stage, Clemson is 5-4 in games when it closes as an outright underdog. That stretch includes bowl upsets of LSU and Ohio State, one road win at Virginia Tech in 2011, and last year's season-opening 38-35 triumph over Georgia at Death Valley.
The starting over/under for Clemson's trip to Georgia, featuring a pair of new starting quarterbacks in Cole Stoudt and Hutson Mason, is 60 points.
South Carolina hosts the season's kickoff game against Texas A&M on Aug. 28, and the Gamecocks have been tabbed a 10.5-point favorite against the Johnny Manziel-less Aggies.
USC is riding an 18-game winning streak at Williams-Brice Stadium, and holds a 32-3 mark at home spanning the previous five seasons. The Gamecocks are 26-1 as the betting favorite since a home loss to defending national champion Auburn on Oct. 1, 2011.
Other opening lines of interest include Penn State -1 over Central Florida (in Dublin, Ireland); Alabama -27 over West Virginia (in Atlanta); host Auburn -21 over Arkansas; Florida State -17.5 over Oklahoma (in Dallas); and LSU -5 over Wisconsin (in Houston.)
