Twenty-four boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 15 advanced in a Drive, Chip and Putt local qualifying event held last weekend at Wescott Plantation.
More than 180 youngsters from South Carolina and Georgia participated in the event, with the top three in each age group advancing to a sub-regional Aug. 16 at Fort Jackson Golf Club in Columbia. Winners at the sub-regional level advance to regional qualifying with the overall champions then moving on to the championship, scheduled April 5, 2015, at Augusta National Golf Club. Winners were:

Several Charleston-area golfers made significant contributions in the 58th Virginias-Carolinas Women's Team Matches held recently at Porter's Neck Country Club in Wilmington, N.C. The Carolinas team led wire-to-wire for a 67-41 victory over their counterparts from Virginia and West Virginia,
Contributing to shutout victories and three points in the modified four-ball matches were Lea Anne Brown of Mount Pleasant, who teamed with Anne Washington of Myrtle Beach; Savannah Hallman of Mount Pleasant, who teamed with Amanda D'Ostroph of Whispering Pines, N.C.; and Elizabeth Thompson of Charleston, who teamed with Kathryn Miranda of Lexington. Also, former Summerville resident Mallory Hetzel, now the women's golf coach at Western Carolina, was a three-point contributor, teaming with Hayley Hammond of Mooresville, N.C.
Two Charleston-area professionals posted top-10 finishes in the South Carolina Open played at Florence Country Club. Nate Smith of Daniel Island tied for fifth at 206, four strokes behind winner Rohan Allwood of Blythewood. Greg Boyette of Bulls Bay tied for eighth at 208.
Kate Harper of Isle of Palms tied for 10th in the Girls 14-18 division of the Blade Junior Classic played at Thornblade in Greer, shooting 155. Hailey Cleary of Lexington finished first with a two-day total of 143.

Joe Fairey shot 81 to win the Charleston Golf Week Amateur Tour event played at Patriots Point, finishing one shot ahead of Kevin Saylor. Dunae Bausman won A Flight with a 73; Marvin Jones posted a 75 to win B Flight; Craig Herring was the C Flight winner with a 79; and Dave Benson won D Flight with an 87.
