A 34-year-old woman died early Sunday after her car crashed into an 18-wheeler near Awendaw early Sunday morning.
The wreck happened about 2 a.m. on Guerins Bridge Road near U.S. Highway 17, according to Maj. Eric Watson.
Monica Bailey, 34, of Awendaw died at the scene from injuries sustained in the wreck, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Kimberly Rhoton said.
Authorities say Bailey was driving a white, 1997 Lincoln Towne Car eastbound on Guerins Bridge Road. Watson said the car failed to yield the right of way and attempted to cross the southbound lanes of Highway 17 when it was struck head-on by a 2011 Kenworth tanker truck.
Bailey was not wearing a seatbelt, Watson said.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt.
The wreck is still under investigation.
