Low-key for years in metro Charleston, a big name real estate network has ramped up lately, raising its hot-air balloon logo from Summerville to downtown.
National brand ReMax scored its latest transition less than three weeks ago. The Marshall Walker.com Group re-opened July 7 at 582 Rutledge Ave. as ReMax Historic.
All told, ReMax counts eight area offices totaling 103 agents, according to the company's website. As recently as the late 2000s, the network with its white, blue and red promos and thermal-airship images on ads and business cards sported just three outlets.
"We're proud and excited to re-open our office under the ReMax name," says Walker, broker and franchise owner. "We have been longtime members of the local UpTown business community and aligning with an international brand will bring huge benefits to our clients. There is a reason nobody in the world sells more real estate than ReMax, and that's what we're here to do," he says.
ReMax Historic, situated in Charleston's upper peninsula, specializes in residential and commercial real estate including investment, second home and property development. The franchise also operates a division that focuses on short sales and bank owned property - known as Real Estate Owned or REO and typically involving home foreclosures.
Walker previously served as broker/owner of his independent real estate company, The MarshallWalker.com Group. According to ReMax, his decision to join the network was to "broaden opportunities for both agents and clients."
ReMax Historic operates from a former gas station that Walker renovated while heading the independent agency. Located a few blocks south of Hampton Park, the old service depot was redesigned as a "modern real estate office."
According to ReMax, "The professional yet laidback workspace features the dynamics of an Internet café with digital agent work stations." The office "embodies the new-age habits of today's real estate agents."
Walker plans to open the café side of the office to the public later this year, according to ReMax.
The broker-owner has racked up more than 10 years' experience in the real estate industry as an agent and owner in the Charleston area. He's a member of the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors and former board member of the Charleston Multiple Listing Service.
He also gives back to the community, notably assisting with the renovation of nearby Allen Park and sponsoring the park's "free concert series." He's also helped out neighborhood nonprofits.
ReMax Historic consists of 10 professional real estate agents and serves the Charleston, Mount Pleasant and Summerville areas.
The recently transitioned office represents just one of the new ReMax franchises, which also include a locale in the historic district and an outlet in downtown Summerville .
