Trick'em vaulted past Rascal Saturday to win the Edisto Marina Billfish Tournament, but Rascal managed to hang on and captured the 2014 South Carolina Governor's Cup Billfishing Series title.
Trick'em, owned by Curtis Whitaker and captained by Robert Stalcup, released two blue marlin (600 points each) Saturday to go along with a blue marlin and sailfish release on Friday. That gave Trick'em 2,000 release points for the event and earned the crew $28,841.
Rascal, owned by Norman Pulliam and Foster McKissick and captained by Mark Rogers, released two sailfish to go along with a sailfish and a blue released on Thursday, finishing with 1,200 points.
Rascal is the unofficial winner of the series with 3,875 points through five events. With its big tournament at Edisto, Trick'em vaulted into second place with 3,050 points. Rounding out the top five are Mister Pete, 2,675; Petrel, 2,675; and Syked Out, 2,475.
The 20 boats participating in the tournament released three blue marlin and four sailfish Saturday.
Daymaker, owned and captained by Bobby Krivohlavek, caught the other blue marlin and sailfish Saturday to finish third at Edisto with 800 points.
Christy II caught a 22.2-pound wahoo Saturday to win that category. Legal Holiday's 31.4-pound dolphin and Voodoo Child's 18.8-pound blackfin tuna, both caught Friday, won those divisions.
