Rascal did not fish Friday but managed to hang onto first place by the slimmest of margins in the Edisto Marina Billfish Tournament, the final stop in the South Carolina Governor's Cup Billfishing Series.
Trick'em, owned by Curtis Whitaker and captained by Robert Stalcup, matched Rascal's 800 points from Thursday with a blue and sailfish on Friday. But Rascal, owned by Norman Pulliam and Foster McKissick and captained by Mark Rogers, leads based on the time of catch. Trick'em was the winner of the previous Governor's Cup event, the MegaDock tournament.
Miss Wy, owned by Ed Holder and captained by Matt Wilkinson, is third with 600 points for three sailfish releases Thursday.
Petrel, fourth in the Governor's Cup standings behind Rascal, Syked Out and Mister Pete, released two sailfish Friday, its first day of fishing. Petrel is owned by Harry Johnson Jr. and captained by Thomas Wynne.
Legal Holiday moved into the lead in the dolphin category with a 31.4-pound catch Friday. Voodoo Child took the tuna lead with an 18.8-pound blackfin on Friday.
Eight boats used Friday as a fishing day. Twenty boats are entered in the tournament and all are eligible to fish Saturday. The weigh-in runs from 5-7 p.m.
Rascal, owned by Norman Pulliam and Foster McKissick and captained by Mark Rogers, entered the Edisto tournament with 2,675 points, 200 ahead of Mister Pete and Syked Out, 400 ahead of Petrel.
