A Myrtle Beach woman died Monday afternoon after running a red light and crashing her car into a sweetgrass basket stand on Highway 17, authorities said.
Charleston County Deputy Coroner Cindy Bordallo identified the woman as 22-year-old Wendy Castro-Valle. She died from blunt-force trauma as a result of the wreck, Bordallo reported.
Mount Pleasant police responded around 2 p.m. Monday to the area of Highway 17 and Hamlin Road.
According to the department's spokesman Chip Googe, a vehicle ran through a red light, swerved to the right and struck a basket stand perched on the side of the road.
The driver, Castro-Valle, was killed in the wreck. Three passengers were transported to Medical University Hospital with minor injuries, Googe said.
