A Myrtle Beach woman died Monday afternoon after running a red light and crashing her car into a sweetgrass basket stand on Highway 17, authorities said.
Charleston County Deputy Coroner Cindy Bordallo identified the woman as 22-year-old Wendy Castro-Valle. She died from blunt-force trauma as a result of the wreck, Bordallo reported.
Mount Pleasant police responded around 2 p.m. Monday to the area of Highway 17 and Hamlin Road.
According to the department's spokesman Chip Googe, a vehicle ran through a red light, swerved to the right and struck a basket stand that was perched on the side of the road.
The driver was killed in the wreck. Three passengers were transported to Medical University Hospital with minor injuries, Googe said.
