The unemployment rate for South Carolina was 5.3 percent in June, unchanged for the second consecutive month, state official said today.

An estimated 115,583 people were unemployed in the state, showing an increase of 630 people over the month, according to S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce.

The agency added that between May and June, the state's labor force declined by 217 people to 2,165,711.

As for the Charleston metro region, the unemployment rate was 5.1 percent in June. That month's figure is up from 4.5 percent in May, but down compared to the 7.1 percent jobless rate in June 2013.
