MYRTLE BEACH - Believe it or not, the Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle Beach is expanding.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that (http://bit.ly/1ylPEe9) that the aquarium at Broadway at the Beach will be adding a new penguin exhibit and an upgraded ticket area. The work includes an entrance plaza to shield visitors from the sun.
General Manager Craig Atkins says the idea is to make the aquarium more compelling. It's the first major expansion at Ripley's since the aquarium opened 17 years ago.
The work is expected to begin in September and be completed by June in time for the 2015 summer season.
Ripley's also owns the Believe It or Not attraction in downtown Myrtle Beach which opened in the 1970s.
