Saveurs du Monde Cafe has a lengthy selection of quiches, panini, tartines, soups and crepes, scratch-made from organic flour, but the Mount Pleasant bakery's pastry case is so captivating that many customers struggle to look beyond it. Fresh eggs, cream, Belgian chocolate and berries are the basis of an array of tarts, cakes, eclairs and croissants.

The sweets reflect the heritage of the owners, a pair of couples who ended separate globetrotting trips in Charleston. "We felt that this is the right place to settle down," explains a Facebook post introducing Dominique Chantepie, Florence Chantepie, Christiane Chateau and Thierry Chateau.

Now entering its second month of business, Saveurs du Monde is open 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Friday; 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday; and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday. The cafe is at 1960 Long Grove Drive, Suites A and B. For more information, call 352-7498 or visit saveursdumondecafe.com.
