A Ravenel man was discharged from a hospital Monday after being shot three times in a home invasion over the weekend, authorities said.
According to an incident report released by Charleston County sheriff's deputies, 29-year-old Jerry Simmons was wounded when two men stormed into the home he shared with his girlfriend at Three Oaks Mobile Home Park, 6386 Savannah Highway, around 2 a.m. Sunday and shot the couple.
Latorria Heyward, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene having suffered four gunshot wounds, the report said.
Paramedics transported Simmons to Medical University Hospital for treatment. He was discharged from the hospital on Monday, a hospital official said.
Heyward's mother also was at the home when the shooting occurred, deputies said.
When questioned by investigators, the woman reported that she hid under a bed in a back room throughout the ordeal. The suspects peered into the room shortly before fleeing the scene, the report said.
The gunmen were searching for money, deputies said. It wasn't immediately clear if anything was stolen from the home.
Charleston County sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson described the unidentified suspects as two armed black males. One of the men was slim and wore a white T-shirt, according to the report.
Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the Charleston County Sheriff's Office at 202-1700. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
