LITCHFIELD BEACH, S.C. - Authorities say a 37-year-old woman whose family called police because they feared for her safety was shot and killed by a Georgetown County deputy after she charged at him with a knife.
Investigators said the woman was in a bathroom with a knife threatening to hurt herself in her Litchfield Beach home when officers were let in by a property manager around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
The sheriff's office says as deputies checked the home, the woman charged at them with a knife and was shot and killed. Her name has not been released.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting. The deputy who fired his gun is on administrative leave.
